We were naturally extremely disappointed with the outcome of our recent food hygiene inspection and  want to apologise if any of our customers feel let down by us. We think it’s right that we provide an explanation.

We took over the shop recently and, after stocking our shelves and opening our doors, started to carry out our routine safety checks. We identified some pest activity before the inspector visited and were doing what we thought was necessary to solve the problem.

After listening carefully to the officers advice, we offered to close the business immediately to take the urgent action needed. Thankfully, our hard work was recognised by the local authority when we were given the green light to re-open a few days later.

We’ve realised the tough way that despite our best efforts, they weren’t enough. The inspection has given us a valuable opportunity to learn and make lasting improvements. In addition to our rigorous daily checks, we have appointed new pest control contractors who visit our shop regularly to make sure there is no more activity. We’ve carried out extensive works to keep our premises secure from pest entry and spotlessly clean. We’ve also asked a private food safety consultant for his expert advice and are taking on board his helpful tips.

It’s been almost 2 months since the inspection - enough time to get back on track and reflect on our performance. We’re confident now that our standards are back to where they should be so will soon be asking the officer to re-assess us and issue a new rating. We are looking forward to re-building confidence with our regular customers and hope that over time we can win the trust of new ones
